Tortuga Residence: A Modern Sanctuary on Lake Austin

Set along the peaceful shores of Lake Austin, the Tortuga Residence redefines modern lakeside living through thoughtful architecture that balances luxury, nature, and regulation. The project integrates an existing non-conforming structure—grandfathered into the lake setback zone—to preserve its unmatched proximity to the water and frame breathtaking views from the living spaces.

The design unfolds as a composition of new and existing structures, connected by a dramatic bridge that links private and public zones. This layout allows the client—an active host and nature enthusiast—to entertain large gatherings while maintaining privacy for family life. A generous open lawn between the home and lake features an oversized pool, sand beach, and sport court, creating an immersive outdoor experience.

To create cohesion between the old and new, we established a rhythmic architectural language with repeated forms, shared materials, and clean detailing. The entry sequence leads through a sculpted garden and terraced landscape that ascends to the main level, where a panoramic lake view greets guests upon arrival.

The Tortuga Residence is a retreat that turns regulatory complexity into architectural opportunity—offering a timeless, cohesive sanctuary nestled within the city.
